League Treasurer John Satterthwaite recently presented a cheque for £600 to Severn Hospice, being the amount raised by this year's Charity Shield competition.
Many thanks to all teams for their contributions.
21Dec24In light of the success of their evening winter league played on the all weather green, Allscott Heath are looking to see if there's any interest in forming an over 60's league to be played in the afternoons, starting in the new year.
Anyone interested should contact Chris Yates on 01952 770394 or email: chris@ercallmill.co.uk
6Dec24Outcomes from a meeting of the league officers were as follows:
The 2025 AGM will be held on Thursday 13th February at Sinclair (to be confirmed), 1.30pm start.
All current officers have agreed to continue.
Following some difficulties, clubs are reminded that they should ensure that their contact details on their club page on the results service are kept up to date. Details of any changes to club secretaries should be emailed to midshropseniorbowls@gmail.com.
Notice of team withdrawals and any new applications should be lodged with the secretary before the AGM. Please note that the current league format of four divisions each of fourteen teams doesn't allow any expansion. The only way to do so would be to add a fifth division and reduce the divisions to twelve teams. This reorganisation would necessarily mean that normal promotion/relegation would not be possible. Once the number of teams entered is known, the officers will put forward options to the AGM. We have received one application already and one other club was interested in entering another team at the start of this season.
Any propositions for rule changes should be emailed to the league secretary (midshropseniorbowls@gmail.com) as soon as possible and at the latest by 31st December. Propositions from the officers are as follows:
As very few teams fill out a result card any longer and there were a couple of disputes this season, amend League Rule 13 which currently reads: The home captain or representative to insert result of the match on the web site within 48 hours of match being played, all results cards must be checked by both captains as an agreed result and signed by both accordingly, any discrepancies arising from this result must be agreed and resolved at the end of the match.
Change to read:
(a) Home clubs shall ensure the result is entered on the website within 48 hours of the match being completed. The details should then be checked and any discrepancy notified to the Fixture Secretary by E-mail within 72 hours.
(b) Clubs shall retain all the individual score cards for a further 5 days after a fixture.
(c) Clubs must present individual score cards for verification within 5 days of being called for by the league or a league officer.
(d) Where a dispute arises and individual score cards are not provided for verification, the complainant shall have their complaint upheld, with no right of appeal being given to the other team.
Delete rule 18 as we no longer hold a November meeting:
18. All propositions for the AGM in (January) must be notified to the league secretary 21 days prior to the General Meeting in (November).
Competition rule 1 for the Individual Merit currently reads:
1. All entries must be 60 or over and played in the league during the current season.
Change to:
1. All entries must be 60 or over and have played at least four games in the league during the current season.
New Competition rule 3 for the Individual Merit to read:
3. Any player having entered and not turned up to play without notifying the competition secretary will be banned from entering the competition the following year.
Competition rule 1 for the Doubles currently reads:
1.All entries must be 60 or over and played in the league during the current season.
Change to:
1.All entries must be 60 or over and have played at least four games in the league during the current season.
New Competition rule 3 for the Doubles to read:

For many years, he played for the Dun Cow Dawley and Chubbs in Wolverhampton and later for the White Horse, Bowring and Horsehay.
His enthusiasm for the game of crown green bowls will be missed by his many friends and teammates. RIP John.

There were twelve entries. Many thanks to the Sinclair club for making their facilities available. Full details are here.

Sid's funeral is on Tuesday 11 June at 10.30 am at Telford Crematorium and afterwards at Hadley Park Hotel. RIP Sid.
3Jun24The draw for round 1 of the Charity Shield is now available on the results service here and copied below.
Ties take place on Thursday 6th June and matches start at 1.30pm but note that two home matches have been drawn at Bridgnorth, Allscott 1 & St Georges No.1 so they should all start at 1pm.
Clubs are reminded that rule 11 applies: Any two teams from the same division drawn against each other, the team drawn away to receive a +12 point handicap. This means that these teams will receive +12: Mortimer and Donnington Wood A.
11May24League officers are deeply saddened to learn of the death of Ron Adams and wish to send their condolences to Ron's family and Madeley Cricket Club.
Ron has been a great servant to the sport of crown green bowls for many years and will be greatly missed.
RIP Ron.
Ron's funeral will be at 1.30pm on Tuesday 28th May at Telford crematorium followed by refreshments at Madeley Cricket Club.
1May24The draw has been made for the preliminary round of the Charity Shield and is available on the results service here with a copy below. Ties take place on Thursday 9th May and matches start at 1.30pm but note that two home matches have been drawn at Bridgnorth, Edgmond, Maddocks & St Georges No.1 so they should all start at 1pm.
Clubs are reminded that rule 11 applies: Any two teams from the same division drawn against each other, the team drawn away to receive a +12 point handicap. This means that the following teams drawn away will receive +12:
Sinclair A, Newport A, Charlton, Highley B, Madeley CC A, Bylet B, Bridgnorth D, Madeley CC C & Much Wenlock.
Clubs are reminded that the deadline for registering players is next week when the season starts. Subsequently, any new registrations will have to be done by contacting the fixture secretaries.
28Mar24We have received a letter of thanks from the Severn Hospice for the league's donation of £590 being the amount made from last year's Charity Shield competition.

4Mar24Proposed by the League Officers
Rule 15(b), the fine for not turning up for a league or cup fixture be increased from £10 to £20. Carried.
The League Chairman should receive an honorarium to the same value as the Treasurer. Carried.
New competition rule for the Charity Shield to read: 20: To be eligible to play in the competition after the first round, players must have played at least three league games in the current season. Carried.
Proposed by Newport BC, new league rules:
9(d): No player may practice on an opponents green on the day of a match. Carried.
9(e): Any player breaching rule 9(d) will lose their match 21-0. Carried.
Reason: At present, there is no rule to stop a player practising on an opponent's green before the match starts. Nor is there any penalty for doing so. The no practice rule is common in other leagues.
Charity Shield new rules:
4(b): No practice will be permitted on the match green by either team on the day of the match. Defeated.
4(c): Any player breaching rule 4(b) will see 5 chalks added to their opponents score. Defeated.
Reason: If the teams are handicapped, why is one team allowed to practice and not the other? Surely this defeats the point of a handicap.
Proposed by Bridgnorth BC
Change the Charity Shield and Consolation Competitions such that all rounds are played on neutral greens. This requires rewording of Charity Shield rule 6 and deletion of rule 9. Defeated.
If this change is not approved, add a the following new Charity Shield rule:
9(a): Away team players will be allowed 10 minutes practice before the start of the match. Defeated.
Proposed by Bylet BC
Remove the word male from league rule 9(a). New rule to read: Teams shall consist of six bowlers who have reached the age of 60, are registered with the BCGBA and registered with the Fixture Secretary 48 hours prior to their first game. Carried 27-26.
The following League Officers were duly elected:
President John Ford
Chairman Ian Evans
Vice Chairman Chris Yates
Secretary John Palmer
Treasurer John Satterthwaite
Competition Secretary Rob Renke
Fixture Secretaries Nigel & Stephen Booth
Safeguarding Officer Graham Davies
SCGBA Representative Tony Roche
The league's Results Page has been updated for the 2024 season and is now open for clubs to amend their player lists and contact details. Fixtures will be added at a later date.
